POLICY:  Procedure to verify “active parishioner” tuition rate.

REASON:  In recent years the Total Board of Education, the Parish Council and Finance Council of St. Edward Church have discussed the situation in which parishioners do not regularly attend Mass or do not volunteer or financially support the work and ministry of the Church.  This inaction compromises the future of our school and Church.   This inaction does not follow the precepts of the Church which require not only our regular weekly Sunday Mass attendance, but also the need to support the Church materially.  (Catechism of the Catholic Church #2041-2043)

This policy puts the meaning and the practice of our Catholic Faith at the top of our list.  Sharing our time, talent and treasure is the true measure of our success in life.   It is not an option to be taken lightly.  It is a commitment each of us must make for the well being, success and support of our school and Church.  It is a commitment each of us must make so that we are active in practicing and living out our Catholic Faith.

Beginning the academic year 2006-2007 there will be a new two level rate of tuition:  active parishioner and school family.

PROCEDURE:  In January each family who is Catholic, registered at St. Edward Church and is enrolled in the school will receive a Parent Promise form from the pastor.  Parent(s) are asked to review the Parent Promise, sign it, and return it to the pastor by January 31.  If your signed, dated copy is not received by January 31 you will be considered for the school family tuition rate for the following school year.

Those Catholic and registered families who enroll their child for school after February will receive a copy of the Parent Promise when they meet with the principal to enroll their child.  They will have two weeks to return the Parent Promise to the pastor or they will be considered for the school family tuition rate for the following school year.

To verify that a family will receive the active parishioner tuition rate, the pastor of St. Edward will review the family’s prior activity concerning the criterion listed on the Parent Promise.   The pastor will send each family a letter verifying their status.  This status (active parishioner or school family) will be the grounds for which tuition rate will be applied to a particular family the following school year.  This procedure is required each and every year.

If you intend to apply for the Friends of St. Edward tuition assistance you too will need to receive the active parishioner tuition rate.  Please do not assume that because you received assistance last year it will be available again next year.  You too must apply each and every year.
